<p>A system for continuously forming a multi-layer, oriented strand layup from at least two, and preferably four (22, 24, 26, 28), layup feed sources. At least first and second layups are simultaneously formed, overlapping one on top of the other in zig-zag patterns on a longitudinal, side-to-side moving conveyor trough (30). The top of the bottom layer is formed at the same time as the bottom of the top layer, and an angled base on which the strands (36) fall is thereby created which has a consistent strand angle across the interface of the layers. This carefully coordinated layup motion forms a strand mat with a continuous average strand angle throughout its layup feed interfaces(s), thereby forming, after heating and compression thereof, an elongate composite product having consistent strength properties.</p> |
