Disclosed is a process for the production of a plate with at least one upwards-facing well designed to hold chemical and/or biochemical and/or microbiological substances, the wells being formed in the plate by a moulding tool. The process comprises the following steps: a) a thermoplastic sheet is laid on a moulding block which acts as the moulding tool and includes the negative mould of the wells to be produced, and b) a stream of hot gas at a given first temperature is directed for a given length of time at the thermoplastic sheet, the hot gas stream impacting on at least a zone of the film covering a mould recess, heating it and thus pushing it into the recess so that it fits snugly up against the completely smooth inside surface of the recess.
