The tool is esp. a boring bar (1). It has a recess formed at its outer end to receive a cutting insert (5). The boring bar (1) has a longitudinal slot (2) extending inwards from the recess for the cutting insert. One wall (6) on the side of this slot (2) forms a spring finger which presses the cutting insert (5) into the recess. The walls of this recess are inclined at an angle of less than 90 deg. with the surface (17) of the wall of the slot. These inclined walls cause the insert (5) to be pressed further into the recess by the pressure exerted by the spring finger (6).
