The annular conical diaphragm (M) is driven in the axial direction (1) by an electromagnetic drive (E) at the radius (Ro) where the flexure-resistant piston vibrator plate (P) is bonded to it. The axial thickness (K) of the plate (P) increases continuously from its centre half-way to that radius (Ro) and then decreases, with a rate of change (dK/dr) which is either constant or piecewise-constant in progression. The diaphragm (M) extends from that radius (Ro) outwards to a peripheral ring (Rr) whose axial thickness (S) also decreases towards the rim, whence a projection (F) continues at right angles to the axis (1) as a fixture for the ring (Rr), and also indirectly for the diaphragm (M) itself.
