Drug prepn. from protective mucosal layer on fish surface - useful as antiviral agent in treatment of cancer and multiple sclerosis

Prodn. of a pharmaceutical comprises removing the mucus-like protective layer (A) from the surface of fish. Also new is an appts. for the process. More specifically, the outermost mucosal layer (the beaker layer) is removed from live fish which have been lightly stunned before being treated. USE/ADVANTAGE - (A) is useful in veterinary and human medicine to treat virus diseases, cancer and multiple sclerosis with almost no side effects. It is admin. subcutaneously (pref.) or orally (formulated with glucose to improve resorption and taste). The material must be used within 30 min. of its recovery from the fish. The subcutaneous dose is 0.5-10 ml, typically 0.5-1 ml initially, then increased gradually.
