The exhaust gases of a twin-bank internal combustion engine are taken via exhaust manifolds (8) to a central expansion chamber (10) of a casing (9). From there they flow through main catalysts (18) at opposite ends of the casing (9) before being ejected into the atmosphere via terminal silencers (21). This exhaust gas installation provides a space-saving arrangement of all the components needed for the best possible exhaust gas cleaning, low exhaust back-pressure and meets all acoustic requirements.
