The periphery of the disc-shaped shaft flange (14) of the cutting wheel (11) fits in a sealed manner into a large roller bearing (15) at a tight distance from the shield dividing wall (3). The drive shaft (12) is supported in a slide bearing ring (19) which closes the sealing space. The shaft seal (18) on the work surface side in front of the dividing wall (3) is arranged in a socket-shaped sealing housing (13) through which the drive shaft (12) passes. The dia. of the larger roller bearing (15) is two to three times at least that of the drive shaft (12) in the area of the seal (18). USE - To locate, support and seal a cutting wheel flanged drive shaft in a shield drive machine used in tunnel boring.
