<p>PURPOSE:To perform an optimum valve timing control in response to the operating conditions of an engine by positively restricting the axial movement of a cylindrical gear to an optional position by a restricting mechanism, etc., thereby continuously controlling the relative turning position between a cam shaft and a body to be turned. CONSTITUTION:A moving body 19 moving axially in synchronism with a cylindrical gear 10, a restricting mechanism 20 for restricting the axial movement of the moving body 19 to a specified position, and a control mechanism 21 for controlling the operation of the restricting mechanism 20 are provided. The axial movement of the cylindrical gear 10 can be restricted by the restricting mechanism 20, etc., to an optional desired position, and thereby the relative turning position between a cam shaft 1 and a timing pulley 5 can be held at an optimum position in response to the operating condition. The valve timing can thus be controlled with good accuracy in response to the operating conditions of an engine.</p> |
