A plant substrate based on granular ores contains at least 30 wt.% contg. vulcanic tufa or tufa-like stone or stone mixts. natural zeolite and alkali. The mixt. of ores has a continuous, not intermittent granularity, pref. ca. 0.1-8 mm dia., sieving according to DIN 18123. The potassium content is at least 3 wt.%, esp. at least 4.5 wt.%. The zeolite content is at least 10 wt.%, esp. 28-60 wt.% or more. Zeolite contg. volcanic rock of at least 20 wt.% zeolite is used, esp. alkali trachytic trass rock and/or welding cinder. Other latent hydraulic powders or granules (hydraulite) and a porous material light substance pref. pumice can also be used. USE/ADVANTAGE - The plant substrate has a coarse granular structure, which is suitable for use on outdoor green spaces as it is firm when trodden on, is resistant to abrasion, is resistant to frost, has a high water storage capacity and high air pore content. It is also recyclable., The substrate is also free-flowing and thus can be blown through silo tubes. It can be used in a mono-layer application without a drainage layer or in two- and multi-layer applications with a drainage layer.
