A curing agent for epoxy resins having improved solubility characteristics has formula (I) where R is -C6H5X, -CH2C6H4X, -CH2CH2C6H4X, or -CnH2n-1, and X is either -H, -CH3, -OCH3, -OH, or -NY, where Y is -H or CH3 and where n is 1 to 12. Such substituted cyanoguanidines are soluble in various solvents and do not require the use of undesirable solvents necessary with cyanoguanidine itself. |
