The switch cabinet has a compartment closable by means of a hinged lid, trough-shaped at its rear side. The rear side accepts a keyboard held by a holding plate in the lid. The holding plate (30) is held in holding strips (24,25) arranged at the inner sides of the two side walls (21) at a distance given by the height of the keyboard (40) or similar. The holding strips are arranged with continuous reception slots (29) at opposing sides in the region facing the edge of the holding plate or have an undercut continuous clamping web (34) locked in the U shaped clamping nuts (35) for the screws securing the holding plate. ADVANTAGE - Keyboard fitted in lid so that operating and indicating elements do not stand proud and in closed position do not project in board compartment and allows integration of units flush with open side.
