A girder (10) comprises a web (12) of reinforced concrete with steel plates (14, 16) attached to opposite sides of the web (12) to form flanges which project from the web (12). The steel plates (14, 16) are attached to the web (12) by means of studs (18). The web (12) is cast in position between the plates (14, 16) to embed the studs (18) therein. The girder (10) is used in the construction of bridges. |
