The self closing fuel tank cap (12) for fixture to the fuel tank filler tube (10) has a support sleeve (14) with a sealing seat (22). A hinged cap (24) is spring laoded against the sealing seat and held there by an automatic lock (34). On introductoin of a fuel filler nozzle (32), the lock is released and the cap pushed open against its spring (28) force by the nozzle. ADVANTAGE - Easy handling and protection against unauthorised opening.
