PURPOSE:To improve thermal impact resistance by incorporating V2O3 as a main ingredient, and incorporating at least one type selected from Cr, Al, Zr, Hf, W and Sn and whisker of specific wt.%. CONSTITUTION:A positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistor material contains V2O3 as a main ingredient, at least one type selected from Cr, Al, Zr, Hf, W and Sn such as Cr2O7, Fe2O3 of suitable amount is weighed, and oxides of them are mixed and pulverized by a normal method such as, for example, by using Freon, steel balls, a vibration mill comprising steel pot, etc. Then, whisker of 2 - 40wt.%, more preferably 20wt.% is used alone or a mixture including the whisker is used. Further, rough mixture of the mixed and pulverized oxides and the whisker are wet mixed by using a mixer, then the Freon is removed by vacuum heating, etc., further reduced, and the mixture powder is sintered to obtain a sintered material. Electrodes are attached to both side surfaces of a sample cut from the obtained sintered material as a PTC resistance element. |
