Production of vehicle frames from modular structural components

Automotive frame members are constructed using modular components 12, 14. Primary components 12 consist of a web portion and flange portions 18 at each end of the web. Secondary connectors 14 are U-shaped. Frame members are constructed by joining two primary components 12 using connectors 14. The primary and secondary components 12, 14 are selected from a "family" of such components so that the resultant frame member has a required set of structural properties.
