PURPOSE:To prepare a smooth steel pipe having a metal luster by bringing a non-cold-drawn carbon steel pipe into contact with a colloidal titanium- containing solution, drying the pipe and subsequently coating the dried pipe with a specific lubricating oil. CONSTITUTION:Before subjected to a cold-drawing processing, a carbon steel pipe is brought into contact with a colloidal titanium-containing solution containing colloidal titanium prepared from the reaction product of a titanium- containing compound with an alkaline phosphoric acid salt in an amount of 0.001-0.5g/l as titanium metal. The treated pipe is dried and coated with a lubricating oil containing (A) 40-95wt.% of a reaction product of a fat or oil and/or a higher fatty acid ester compound having a sulfur content of 23-30wt.% and (B) 5-60wt.% of at least one member selected from an oil-soluble high molecular compound, fat or oil, synthetic oil, mineral oil and a higher fatty acid (or amine) and having a viscosity of 100-3,000cp at 20 deg.C. |
