The mechanism is for moving individual spinning cops (20) from a container (4) to an automatic bobbin winding machine. It comprises an (endless chains 11) conveyor (5) carrying (spaced 21) pairs of gripper (7) jaws (18,19) and a cutter (31; 32,33) to cut-off the trailing thread of each cops. The cutter operates in the spaces (21) between the grippers (7) as they pass. Within the container (4) these spaces (21) may be laterally covered by (spaced 27) elements (26) which prevent cops from entering these spaces and move synchronously (endless chains 8,9) with the conveyor (5), being driven by the shaft (14) driving the chain wheels (12) of the conveyor, so that their respective spaces (21, 27) coincide.
