4-Amino-1-methyltetralin derivatives of general formula (I) in which X denotes an aromatic nucleus, especially phenyl, naphthyl or alpha - or beta -thienyl, capable of carrying one to two substituents chosen from halo, hydroxyl, C1-C8 alkoxy and trifluoromethyl; R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or a halogen, a hydroxyl group, a C1-C8 alkoxy group, an optionally halogenated linear or branched C1-C4 alkyl group occupying one of the positions 5, 6 or 7, or else a methylenedioxy group occupying positions 5 and 6 or 6 and 7; R2 denotes a hydrogen or halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a C1-C8 alkoxy group, an optionally halogenated linear or branched C1-C4 alkyl group occupying one of the other positions 5, 6 or 7; and each of R3 and R4 denotes a hydrogen atom, a linear or branched C1-Cn alkyl group, n being 2 or more, optionally halogenated, hydroxylated or aminated, or else R3 and R4, taken together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a saturated, optionally substituted heterocyclic ring containing five or six atoms, one or two of which are heteroatoms chosen from nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur.
