The saw-tooth wire is first wound onto the drum, followed by machining the tips of the teeth to final size. The drum and its winding are then immersed in a Ni plating bath contg. a uniform suspension of hard, non-metallic particles up to 5 microns in size and made of the carbides of Ti, B, W, or Si. An electroless nickel plating bath is pref. used and is continuously stirred to keep the particles in suspension. The saw teeth can be machined to a specific size, and the uniform coating of hard particles in Ni provides long working life for the drum, esp. where up to 80 kg of fibres are processed per hour.
|
