PURPOSE:To obtain the metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium having an excellent traveling property, wear resistance, still durability, and weatherability in a wide range of temp. and humidity conditions by providing at least one kind of compds. of specific hydroxamic acid, specific hydroxyamide sulfonate or the metallic salts thereof on a ferromagnetic metallic thin film. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of the compds. selected from the hydroxamic acid expressed by formula I, the hydroxyamide sulfonate expressed by formula II or the metallic salts thereof are provided on the ferromagnetic metallic thin film. In the formula I, R1 denotes >=11C higher aliphat. group. In the formula II, R2 denotes >=12C higher aliphat. group or the arom. group substd. with the higher aliphat. group. The wear resistance of members, such as magnetic heads and guide poles, under severe conditions of low humidity, high humidity, etc., is, therefore, greatly improved and the coefft. of friction to traveling system members is lowered.
