The strip (7) of foil, paper, cardboard, or similar flat material is coated with adhesive in the region near one edge. The strip (7) is guided by means of a pneumatic edge detector (2). This pneumatic edge detector (2) consists of an upper nozzle (3) which directs a jet of air into a lower nozzle (4). The upper nozzle (3) is connected to a source of compressed air (5) whilst the lower nozzle (4) is connected to a chamber (9) which is fitted with a flexible diaphragm. Any movement of the adhesive applicator head (19) and the attached nozzles (3) and (4) relative to the strip (7) varies the air flow between the nozzles (3) and (4). This in turn varies the pressure acting on the diaphragm which acts on the spring-loaded rod (12) to correct the position of the applicator head (1). USE - Application of adhesive to flat strips. |
