The invention relates to a press roll in the press section of a paper machine or the like, which roll has a fixed body 1 and a shell 2 rotating on the body, the shell under the action of a separate counter-roll being compressed and sliding towards a concave slide shoe. At the ends of the roll there are elastic ends 4 rotating with the shell, changes in the shape of which ends compensate for the fact that the moving path and shape of the shell do not coincide with the rotational moving path and shape of the ends.
