The workpiece travels through a rolling gap formed by a circular row of equispaced rolls, e.g. three, four or six rolls. Each roll is free to rotate on a shaft which intersects with the other roll shafts inside a housing. One end of each shaft consists of a boss with a hole in which another end of another shaft is located, e.g. so the axes of all the rolls are in a single vertical plane. The end of each roll shaft opposite the boss has a screw thread for a nut; and the nuts clamp the assembly together. Several assemblies may be mounted in a row, e.g. as in a stretch- reducing mill; and the rolls may be idling or driven. Useful for rolling small sections in steel or Cu alloys, e.g. rod, tube or profiles. When the rolls are free to rotate on their shafts, the workpiece is drawn through the roll gap.
