PURPOSE: A method for notifying the state of a LAN port in a duplicated sub-controller is provided to confirm the state of two ports in real time in the sub-controller. CONSTITUTION: Sub-controllers generate a compulsory event(501), and periodically transmit the compulsory event to each port(502). Sub-controllers judge whether a response is received from a corresponding port(503). If the response is received from the corresponding port, the sub-controllers judges that the corresponding port is usable(504) and notifies a main controller that the corresponding port is usable(505). If the response is not received from the corresponding port, the sub-controllers increase a count(506). It is judged whether the increased count value is identical to a predetermined value(N)(507). If the increased count value is identical to the predetermined value(N), the sub-controller notifies the main controller that it is impossible to use the corresponding port(508).
