PURPOSE: A CCTV(Closed Circuit Television) system and a method for controlling the same are provided to perform recording by assigning weight to monitoring areas on a screen from a camera, and to regulate recording times of image signals inputted from each camera according to the weight, so as to efficiently perform monitoring. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of cameras are arranged. A VCR(Video Cartridge Recorder,20) is an image signal accepting part for recording image signals shot by the cameras(5). A monitor(25) displays the image signals. A video processing unit processes the screen shot by the cameras(5) for delivery to the VCR(20). In the image processing unit, a matrix switch(6) serially multiplexes the image signals inputted in parallel from each camera(5) by the unit of frame or field. A decoder(7) converts the analog image signals switched by the unit of frame through the matrix switch(6) into digital image signals. A buffer memory(8) stores the converted video signals. A buffer memory controller(15) controls the read and write of the image signals stored in the buffer memory(8), and the clock and timing of operations. An input unit(13) inputs recording times for each camera(5) set by a user. A control memory(11) stores setting of the user inputted through the input unit(13). And a main controller(10) controls the buffer memory controller(15) or the matrix switch(6), according to the setting of the user stored in the control memory(11).
