PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image input/output device capable of avoiding unnecessary image data transfer processing in image data supply to an output part and outputting image information from the output part in a short time after receipt of an image output command and to provide a method for this device. SOLUTION: In input of the image data (S501), the image data inputted from an input part are stored in a primary storage device (S502). In this case, an image identifier showing that the primary storage device is the storage position is stored with the image data (S503). Then, a CPU 12 searches whether the image data stored in the primary storage device includes information for outputting or not (S504). If it is determined the information for outputting is included, the image data are not transferred to a secondary storage device but still stored in the primary storage device, and the image identifier showing that the primary storage device is the storage position is set in the image data (S505).
