PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase display capacity and to increase the number of gray scales reducing the transfer speed of display elements in the case of conducting gray shades display by subfield driving. SOLUTION: Plural pixels 110 are arranged at intersections of pural data lines 114 and plural scanning lines 112. The pixels 110 are provided with pixel electrodes and electrooptical elements which are held in the intersection regions of the lines 114 and 112. Driving circuits (130 and 140) of an optoelectronic device conduct the gray shades display by driving the pixels 110 to on and off states in accordance with gray scale data. Each field is divided into plural subfields. A subfield, which becomes the minimum period among the plural subfields, is approximately made equal to the threshold period when optoelectronic material that constitutes the pixels is pulsewidth-modulated.
