The invention generally provides an apparatus and method for providing a mor e uniform gravel pack in the well bore. The apparatus (100) redirects slurry containing particulate matter, and comprises a wellscreen (30). The wellscre en comprises a perforated base pipe (31) having a wire wrap (32) disposed therearound, so that an annular space (35) is formed between the wire wrap a nd the base pipe. Apertures (34, 49) are provided at first and second longitudinal positions in the wellscreen. The apertures provide fluid communication between the exterior of the wire wrap and the annular space, s o that slurry (41) can flow through the annular space to bypass sand bridges.< /SDOAB>
