<p>A permanent magnet type stepping motor comprises a rotor (9) with circumferentially disposed permanent magnetic poles, received in a stator comprising coaxial, axially spaced electromagnetic coils (2, 6) each bounded by pole plates (1, 3; 5, 7) which carry pole pieces (1a, 3a; 5a, 7a).
