PURPOSE:To obtain a composite material capable of molding a structure having excellent strength and shock resistance though it has light and having a compli cated shape by forming the layer of a woven fabric or a non-woven fabric composed of inorganic fibers to at least one surface of a non-woven fabric consisting of high-strength high-modulus polyethylene fibers, impregnating the layer with a synthetic resin and curing and unifying the synthetic resin. CONSTITUTION:It is an important matter that high-strength high-modulus polyeth ylene fibers used as a base material layer are formed in a non-woven fabric shape. The molecular oriented molded from of an ethylene polymer having high molecular weight or ultra-high-molecular weight having limiting viscosity [eta]of at least 3dl/g measured in decalin at 135 deg.C is favorable as the high- strength high-modulus polyethylene fibers. It is desirable that ethylene and alpha-olefin having not less than 3C, preferably 4-10C are contained in 0.1-20C on an average per 1000C, preferably 0.5-10C as the ethylene polymer having high molecular weight. |
