PURPOSE:To provide the subject antiallergic agent composed of peppermint oil extracted from peppermint or its constituting components. CONSTITUTION:An antiallergic agent composed of one or plural monoterpenes selected from the group consisting of 1-menthol of formula I, menthone of formula II and cineol of formula III or composed of peppermint oil extracted from peppermint. Among the above-mentioned monoterpenes, cineol contained in natural peppermint oil in the lowest quantity shows the highest activity especially by oral administration. When prescribing a food additive using the above- mentioned monoterpene alone or a composition having a composition different from that in natural peppermint oil, a remarkable antiallergic effect can be obtained and flavor and mouth feeling unlike before can be obtained at the same time. |
