PURPOSE:To render superior wear resistance to a substrate by forming a coating film of boronitride consisting of Al, Ti, B and N represented by a specified formula on the surface of the substrate in a specified thickness. CONSTITUTION:Al-Ti-B prepd. as a cathode material in consideration of the desired compsn. is evaporated and ionized by arc discharge and brought into a reaction in an N2 atmosphere to form a wear resistant coating film of boronitride having a chemical compsn. represented by a formula (AlxTi1-x)(ByN1-y)(where 0.05<=x<=0.75 and 0.02<=y<=0.12) on the surface of a substrate in 0.5-8mum thickness. Superior wear resistance is rendered to the substrate and this substrate is made fit for a cutting tool, etc. |
