PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch in which a slitted face is smooth, the width of the slit is narrow, the depth of the slit is easily controlled and which has excellent productivity, and to provide a method of manufacturing the optical switch. SOLUTION: A polymer optical waveguide 3 used for the optical switch has a polymer film 1, a plurality of optical waveguides 2 linearly formed in the polymer film 1, and a creep stopping layer 10 formed on one surface of the polymer film 1. A slit 6 is formed which extends from the other surface of the polymer film 1 to the creep stopping layer 10 and crosses the optical waveguide 2. The creep stopping layer 10 is made of a material which has a fracture toughness larger than that of the polymer film 1 and of the optical waveguide 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
