Sugar-alcohols are prepd. by catalytic hydrogenation at a 2-20 MPa pressure at an initial pH value of 5.8. - A stepwisely or continuously rising temp. profile during reaction is regulated by reaction velocity kinetics as a function of the viscosity of the monosaccharide soln. and the concn. of reducing sugars in the soln. to be hydrogenated.
