A discharge lamp in which a discharge bulb (10) which is formed by pinching a glass tube so as to define a closed glass globe (12) and in which discharge electrodes (15a and 15b) are arranged face to face, is supported at both ends by metal supports (30, 40) welded on a short (22) and a long (24) conducting support extending from an insulating cap (20) so that the conducting supports (22, 24) are parallel to each other and to the discharge axis of the bulb. The metal support (30) includes a bent holding part, and the part (14) of the rear end part of the discharge bulb which is held by this holding part is of circular cross section. Thus, the metal supports which support the discharge bulb can be manufactured easily and the discharge bulb has a long lifetime and its position can easily be adjusted. <IMAGE>
