Contactor appliance or relay in which the electromagnet has a yoke and an armature which consist of stacks of laminations. The yoke (6) and the armature (5) are wrapped in an envelope which has cutout regions ending at the edges of the bundles of laminations and free regions ending at the side surfaces of the bundles of laminations. The envelope is configured so as to provide for the guidance of the armature and the mechanical retention of the yoke in the housing of the appliance. <IMAGE>
