PURPOSE:To obtain excellent picture quality after density is accurately corrected by reading the quantity of light outside the image area of an original film within a constant range and discriminating between a negative film and a reversal film according to the mean value of values obtained from the read quantity of light. CONSTITUTION:Original films 633 and 634 are prescanned outside their image areas before copying operation to read density outside the image areas. The read density is used to decide that the original films 633 and 634 are negative films, reversal films, or mounted films, thereby deciding the kinds of the films automatically. Necessary operation is performed automatically according to the decision result and the image reader performs control corresponding to the kinds of the films. Consequently, the excellent picture quality after the density is accurately corrected is obtained. |
