A transport unit (21) may be moved on a suspended rail (18) with full bobbins (12) towards the creel (5) of a ring spinning frame (4) and with empty bobbins (13) away from the creel. A driven bobbin transfer device (22) can be moved on rails (41) above the creel (5). Skewers (15) at right angles to the machine center plane (8) are arranged in the creel (5). The bobbin transfer device (22) first transfers the empty bobbins (13) from a creel skewer to the transport unit (21). For that purpose, empty spaces for at least two bobbins must be available on the transport unit (21). The transport unit (21) is further moved by the bobbin transfer device (22), which then transfers full bobbins (12) from the transport unit to the emptied creel skewers (15).
