A method for searching a database for a document/image corresponding to a captured digital image by comparing the feature values at feature points of the captured digital image with the feature values at feature points of documents/images recorded in a database. Feature points are extracted from a captured digital image, sets of local feature points are determined for the extracted feature points, subsets of feature points are selected from each determined set, an invariant for geometrical transform is determined as a value featuring each selected subset on the basis of combinations of the feature points in the subset, a feature value is computed by combining the determined invariants, and a vote on the documents and images for which corresponding feature values are determined in the database is carried out.
