The switching circuit has a detector positioned adjacent the rotor to detect spaced markings around its circumference used to provide the switching pulses for successive motor phases. The switching pulses are used to index a counter which is reset each time a count value which is a fraction of the total number of rotor markings is reached. A special marking allows the counter to be internally reset automatically, the angular position of this marking pref. coinciding with one of the prior rotor markings. Pref. the markings are magnetic with the sensor provided by a Hall generator.
