The applicator to coat a web, such as of fabric or paper and the like, has two deflection rollers (2,3) with a guide roller (4) between them which places the web (1) under partial tension. A dosing and/or scraper belt (6) is tensed round the section where the web (1) passes round the guide body (4), to cover the width of the web (1) and also extend over the sides so that the edges of the belt lie against the surface of the guide body (4). The belt (6) is positioned so that, between it and the guide body (4), a wedge-shaped chamber (9) is formed to hold the treatment medium. ADVANTAGE - A large vol. of the medium can be applied simply to the web material, with very small residues so that the effect on the environment is reduced.
