The refrigerator comprises a body (14) closed by a door (16) rotatably located around a vertical axis (18). A permanent magnet (22) holds the door closed by attracting a plate (24) or iron. An electrical magnet coil counteracts the magnet attraction force and further components swing the door open. The magnet coil is arranged on the body of the refrigerator. The permanent magnet is fitted on the body of the refrigerator and the iron plate (24) on the door. - The components for swinging open the door include a spring arranged on the vertical axis. The magnet coil is activated by a receiver (32) in a remote control unit, which also incorporates a transmitter (34) with which the receiver can be activated by radio at a distance from the transmitter.
