A panel assembly is disclosed for use as a window in vehicles or other structures where the window is raised and lowered, usually by sliding movement via a scissor linkage or other mechanism. The assembly includes a sheet of material (12) (e.g. glass), a gasket (14) or casing portion attached along one peripheral edge portion (13) of the sheet (12), and a bracket (20) slidably mounted on the gasket (14). The gasket (14), which is typically moulded from polymeric material, includes one or more retainers for holding the bracket (20) on the gasket (14) without requiring fasteners to extend into or through the sheet (12). A method for slidably mounting the bracket (20) on the gasket (14) after attachment of the gasket (14) to the sheet (12) is also disclosed.
