A novel polyester film having high strength and dimensional stability is disclosed. Said film is characterized in that its longitudinal modulus of elasticity EMD (kgf/mm<2>), transversal modulus of elasticity ETD (kgf/mm<2>) and refractive index n alpha simultaneously satisfy the following relations (1) and (2): EMD + ETD = 1300 (1> n alpha </= 1.5153 - 2.1 x 10<-><5> (EMD + ETD) (2).
