PURPOSE: To provide any type of mark by weakening a laser beam by a corresponding control unit, returning it to a start point at a final end of each line, and again deflecting next line in its width to write the next line after a waiting time depending on a web speed. CONSTITUTION: A laser beam is deflected on material to be marked substantially perpendicularly to a moving web. The deflection of the beam is started by a pulse from a rotary sensor mounted at a web transporting roller. The line is 50μm at the maximum to a film of 24×36 mm format. The beam is run at a time of about 4μsec, and it takes about 2μsec to return to the weakened start point. This gives a maximum film speed of about 250 m/min. A sharpness of the mark is decided by strengthening or weakening the beam with an accuracy of 15μm at one line.
