PURPOSE:To prevent silicon carbide granules from developing a color due to iron and to enable use for high-grade refractories by sticking a group II element of the periodic table or a compd. thereof to the silicon carbide granules. CONSTITUTION:A group II element of the periodic table such as beryllium, magnesium, calcium or strontium or a compd. thereof such as oxide, chloride, carbonate or hydroxide is prepd. and stuck to silicon carbide granules. The occurrence of colored spots due to iron is prevented and the treated silicon carbide granules are used as starting material for high-grade refractories. |
