The plant (1) comprises a burner (2) and an after-burner (3) situated downstream . In the burner (2), the tyre burns over its entire area, being kept in motion by rotation about the axis of the combustion chamber (8) of the burner (2). The downward slope towards the floor of the combustion chamber (8) causes the tyre to advance. This avoids the possibility of the tyres introduced burning in agglomerated heaps, thus rendering combustion uncontrollable. In the after-burner (3) the smoke gases are oxidized and desulphurized by blowing-in of an alkaline substance. The heat generated and associated with the smoke gases is recovered.
