PURPOSE:To facilitate assembly by directly forming an optical function film on the cut face of substrates thereby decreasing the gap between the end faces of optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Plural fiber fixing grooves 2 and plural grooves 3 for guide pins are formed on the substrate 1 and the optical fibers 4 are fitted and fixed into the fiber fixing grooves 2. The substrate 1 is cut along the straight line passing the intersected points of the optical fibers 4 and intersecting with the plural grooves 3 for the guide pins. The optical function film 5 is then formed on at least one surface of the cut surfaces of the substrates 1. The guide pins 6 shorter than the length of the grooves 3 for the guide pins are fitted and fixed into the grooves 3 for the guide pins of at least either of the cut substrates 1 so as to project partly from the cut face. The gap between the end faces of the optical fibers 4 exposed from the cut face is extremely minimized in this way and the need for the adjustment of optical axes is eliminated. The assembly is thus executed extremely easily. |
