Benzaldehydes of the formula <IMAGE> (I) can be obtained by reaction of substituted beta -amino-styrenes of the formula <IMAGE> (II) in which R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R8, R9, R10, m, n and o have the scope of meaning indicated in the description, with oxygen in the presence of a Cu compound in the solution of an aprotic polar solvent at 0 DEG -120 DEG C.
