PURPOSE:To easily decenter the core of a specific part of a normal optical fiber by bringing a dummy fiber into contact with the optical fiber, and uniting the both by fusion splicing and decentering them. CONSTITUTION:The columnar dummy fiber 3 made of a material which has the same or nearly the same properties with the clad 13 of the optical fiber 1 is brought into contact of the optical fiber 13 in the length direction of the clad 13 of the optical fiber 1 to a specific distance and the both are united by fusion splicing while the core 11 of the optical fiber 1 is made eccentric in the clad. The entire outer periphery of the part where the dummy fiber 3 is united by fusion splicing is etched to reduce the diameter. This method does not make the eccentric part of the core 11 small in clad diameter than any other part and the strength never decreases. Further, the manufacture is easy and the cost is reducible. |
